What’s New About Sex Ed Best Practices?
As in any field, sex education content and delivery has changed over the years. In this 3 hour training participants will learn current sex ed content and best practices, including birth control options, options to prevent HIV transmission, current sex ed language, sexual orientation and gender identity, and foundational sex ed best practices to create inclusive learning environments.
Training Objectives
By the end of the training, participants should be able to:
- Describe current birth control methods, including abstinence, barrier methods, hormonal methods, Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCS), and emergency contraception.
- Describe options to prevent transmission and treatment of STIs and HIV
- Use current sex ed language/terminology
- Understand sexual orientation and gender identity
- Understand strategies to create inclusive sex ed learning environments

Creating LGBTQ+ Inclusive and Affirming Learning Spaces
Understanding LGBTQ+ students is critical to supporting inclusive sex ed. In this three hour training you’ll learn about sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and other LGBTQ+ language. We’ll also explore what you can do to create inclusive learning spaces all students.
Training Objectives
By the end of the training, participants should be able to:
- Define sexual orientation and gender identity
- Describe common vocabulary related to gender identity and sexual orientation
- Explain how both sexual orientation and gender identity are determined by each individual, and not based on outward appearances
- Apply strategies to maintain inclusive and affirming learning environments

Answering Students’ Sex Education Related Questions
This three hour our training will provide you with tools and practice to respond to students’ questions related to sex and sex ed.
Training Objectives
By the end of the training, participants should be able to:
- Identify various types of student questions
- Discuss strategies for answering different types of student questions.
- Recognize the importance of maintaining clear boundaries when delivering sex education
- Describe the steps to the FLASH Values Question Protocol and recognize when to apply it.
- Demonstrate how to give full, helpful, and affirming answers to challenging questions.

Teaching Consent
What does consent look like? Feel like? Sound like? In this three hour training learn to use tools to support young people to talk through things when they feel uncertain and set them up for successful future consent conversations. The more we talk, the more we mainstream these areas of everyday life.
Training Objectives
By the end of the training, participants should be able to:
- Understand what consent is and isn’t and that all people deserve to have their consent communicated, recognized, and respected
- Identify skills to set boundaries and how to handle rejection
- Learn to teach young people how to build personal power and agency
